The other day I saw a link on Facebook for this online personal styling service called Stitch Fix. I clicked over to their website and thought it sounded pretty cool. I often times get stuck in a rut with clothes, I like black and solid colors on top and jeans on the bottom. Usually if I have something colorful or patterned on it's because I was shopping with my sisters and they made me try something on. Another thing that I liked about this is that the shopping came to me and I didn't have to load two kids up and haul them and the stroller to the mall!
I thought that this sounded like a great way to add pieces to my wardrobe that someone else picks out for me. What you do is go to the website and sign up. You'll have to complete a Style Profile with your sizes and your likes when it comes to the type of clothing you prefer. It's actually kind of fun to fill out I thought!
Then you can schedule your "Fix". I only had to wait about a week and a half for mine to arrive in the mail. You can set it up to receive a monthly Stitch Fix or just whenever you want one.
To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect when my box came. I opened it up and at first glance I noticed jeans and lots of patterns.
When I started pulling things out I thought everything was pretty cute, but knew I'd have to try it all on to see if it fit.
What Stitch Fix does is for each piece of clothing they send you, there will be a tag attached to it showing how to wear that piece with things you might already have. There are two ideas for each article of clothing. They always send you five things that could be anything from tops to bottoms to accessories. In my first box, I receive a pair of jeans, three tops and some earrings.
Here is what I received, my thoughts on them, and how I might wear them with my own clothing that I already have.
First off, the Miss Me Jeans. I'm pretty picky about jeans and definitely have to try them on in the store before I buy them. When I slipped these on, it was weird...they fit perfectly!!! They were plenty long, but that's how I requested my pants. I figured I could always have them shorted if I kept them.
I paired the jeans with an H&M white tank and gold cardigan, along with a teal scarf. I threw my dark brown cowboy boots on because I didn't have any of my other fall/winter boots out yet.
Decision: Love the jeans! Kept them!
Next up is the Mak B striped sweater. I'm not a big fan of horizontal stripes, but I thought I'd at least try it on. I liked the teal with the navy blue and thought it would look cute with some camel colored boots.
I paired this sweater with some skinny jeans (BKE I think), camel boots and an ivory scarf. Not too bad! I forgot to take a picture of the back of the sweater, but it has a row of buttons down the center that adds some cute detail to the back.
Decision: Decided to go out of my comfort zone and keep it!
The third thing in the box was Bay to Baubles earrings. Two pair came together and I thought that they were cute, but I didn't really need them.
Decision: Wait and see.
The forth item in the box was this 41Hawthorn sleeveless top. You could wear this so many ways! It's plenty long (hard to tell in the picture) and really flowy. AND it has birds on it, but I thought I'd give it a try. Obviously from my comments you can tell it's probably not something I'd try on myself in the store!
I paired it with a dark skinny jean and a ivory H&M blazer along with some black slingback heels and a long strand of pearls. I ended up tucking the tank in since it was so long and I didn't want it hanging past the blazer.
Decision: Loved it and decided to keep it! That's three out of four so far!
Lastly, was the Sweet Rain blouse. I knew before trying it on that I was going to like it as long as it fit. I have a few other tops in this style that I really like. I also really liked the colors and pattern. (Sorry I forgot to take a close up of the top!)
That day I tried it on with some skinny jeans, a black tank, gold earrings and camel flats. I really liked it!
Yesterday I was needing to take a headshot of myself, so I decided to wear this shirt (obviously I decided to keep it!) . I ended up wearing teal earring with it instead of the gold ones. I really liked that pop of color with this shirt.
Decision: Kept it!
So after you try everything on and decide what you are keeping, all you have to do is sign into your Stitch Fix account to pay for the items that you are keeping. The items that you don't like or that don't fit right you just send back to them in the prepaid package that they sent in your box. Easy as that! Make sure when you are paying for your items online you fill out the questions for each piece. That way it will help your stylist know what you like or dislike about the pieces they picked out for you so they can find some more for you next time!
An additional bonus is that if you keep all five items you get 25% off of your total. Since I was on the fence about the earrings (I already have some similar), but knew I wanted the other four items, I did the math and it was cheaper for me to keep the earrings and receive the 25% discount than it was for me to send them back. Who knows, might be a Christmas present for someone!
So overall I was very happy with my first box from Stitch Fix and look forward to my next one!
If you have any questions about Stitch Fix, they have a great FAQ section on their website that explains it all very well. Let me know if you try it out and what you think!
